About The Word.
The Word.™ is a community platform that brings residents, nonprofits, local businesses, schools, and community organizations together to strengthen their communities.
Unlike traditional social platforms centered around likes, followers, and attention, The Word. is designed around meaningful participation—helping people discover local organizations, events, volunteer opportunities, businesses, causes, and ways to make a difference.
Our goal is simple: use technology to help people become more connected to the communities around them.
The Word.™ — Where Good Takes Action.
The opportunity
The Word. is building a network of Community Ambassadors who serve as the human connection between The Word. and the organizations participating on the platform.
As a Community Ambassador, you will support an assigned portfolio of nonprofits, businesses, schools, and other community partners. Your goal is simple: help the organizations you support become successful members of The Word. community.
This is not a traditional sales role. Your relationship with an organization doesn't end when it joins The Word.—that's when it begins. You'll help organizations get started, understand the platform, participate in their community, and know that there is a real person available when they need assistance.
Think of the Community Ambassador as part relationship manager, part customer-success partner, and part community connector.
What you'll do
Build partner relationships
Develop strong relationships with assigned nonprofits, businesses, schools, and community organizations. Learn about their organizations, what they're trying to accomplish, and how The Word. can help them connect with their communities.
Help new partners get started
Support organizations as they establish their presence on The Word. and learn how to use the platform effectively. This may include helping partners understand how to:
- Establish and maintain their presence on The Word.
- Share community news and updates
- Promote events
- Recruit volunteers and share volunteer opportunities
- Create business offers and promotions
- Participate in community challenges
- Connect with residents and other organizations
Encourage ongoing participation
Periodically connect with assigned partners and help identify opportunities for them to participate on The Word. Our objective isn't simply to have organizations registered on the platform. We want organizations actively participating and contributing to their communities.
Serve as a partner resource
Be a trusted point of contact for assigned organizations when they have questions, ideas, feedback, or need assistance. You won't necessarily need to solve every technical problem yourself. When specialized assistance is required, you'll help connect the organization with the appropriate member of The Word. team.
Connect people and organizations
Look for opportunities to bring the community together. That might mean:
- Connecting a nonprofit looking for volunteers with a school
- Introducing a local business to a community initiative
- Helping organizations promote a local event
- Connecting organizations with similar missions
- Encouraging several organizations to participate in a community challenge
- Helping residents discover opportunities to get involved
Community Ambassadors should constantly be looking for opportunities to create connections.
Support community initiatives
Help participating organizations understand and engage with community challenges, volunteer initiatives, local events, neighborhood programs, and other activities supported by The Word.
Gather feedback
Listen to the organizations you support. Help The Word. understand what's working, what isn't, and what would make the platform more useful. Ambassadors provide an important connection between our communities and our product and leadership teams.
Find and celebrate great stories
Identify people, businesses, nonprofits, schools, and organizations making a meaningful difference. Help The Word. recognize and share those stories so others are inspired to participate.
Important skills
We're looking for connectors—not salespeople. Successful Community Ambassadors bring a combination of relationship-building, communication, organization, and community engagement skills. Everything about the app itself can be taught.
Relationship building
The ability to develop genuine, trusted relationships with nonprofit leaders, business owners, educators, community leaders, and residents. Ambassadors should enjoy meeting new people and maintaining relationships over time.
Strong communication
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain The Word. clearly, conduct demonstrations, answer questions, and communicate professionally with a wide variety of people.
Community engagement
An interest in understanding what is happening within a community and identifying opportunities to connect people, businesses, nonprofits, schools, events, and local initiatives.
Customer success mindset
A desire to help partners succeed rather than simply sign them up. A great Ambassador regularly asks: “How can I help this organization get more value from The Word.?”
Organization & follow-through
The ability to independently manage relationships with multiple organizations, keep track of conversations and commitments, follow up when needed, and ensure partner questions don't fall through the cracks.
Initiative & self-direction
Because this is an independent contractor opportunity, Ambassadors should be comfortable managing their own activities and taking initiative without requiring constant direction.
Comfortable with technology
Ambassadors don't need to be technical experts, but they should be comfortable using mobile apps and web-based tools and helping others learn how to use The Word.
Presentation & demonstration
Comfortable presenting The Word. individually or to groups, walking partners through the platform, and explaining its benefits in clear, everyday language.
Listening & problem solving
The ability to listen carefully to what partners need, identify challenges, suggest solutions, and recognize when an issue should be escalated to The Word. team.
Networking & connecting people
The ability to recognize opportunities where people and organizations could benefit from working together and make those introductions.
Empathy & patience
Some partners will be highly comfortable with technology; others won't be. Ambassadors should be patient, approachable, and willing to meet organizations where they are.
Reliability
Partners should know that when their Ambassador says they will follow up, they follow up. Trust will be one of the most important parts of the Ambassador relationship.
Passion for community impact
Most importantly, Ambassadors should genuinely care about helping people and organizations strengthen their communities.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for people who:
- Love working with people and building relationships
- Care about strengthening local communities
- Are comfortable speaking with nonprofit leaders, business owners, students, educators, volunteers, residents, and community leaders
- Communicate clearly and professionally
- Are organized and dependable
- Are proactive and self-directed
- Are comfortable learning new technology
- Can help people who may not be technically oriented
- Enjoy connecting people and organizations
- Listen well
- Follow through on commitments
- Can independently manage multiple partner relationships
Experience in community engagement, nonprofit work, customer success, account management, education, economic development, hospitality, communications, business development, or community relations can be helpful but isn't required.
More important is your ability to build trust and help people succeed.
What success looks like
Community Ambassadors aren't measured simply by the number of emails they send or organizations they contact. We care about meaningful partner engagement and community participation.
Success may include:
- Organizations successfully getting started on The Word.
- Assigned organizations actively participating
- Events and volunteer opportunities being shared
- Businesses participating in community initiatives
- Organizations participating in community challenges
- Connections being created between community organizations
- Partner questions being addressed effectively
- Organizations continuing to use the platform
- Useful partner feedback being provided to The Word.
- Positive community-impact stories being identified and shared
Ultimately, success means that the organizations you support feel that The Word. is helping them become more connected to their community.
Independent contractor relationship
Community Ambassadors provide services to The Word. as independent contractors and not as employees of The Word. or Skyline Software Inc.
Ambassadors are expected to independently manage how they perform their contracted services, subject to agreed-upon responsibilities, deliverables, partner expectations, and applicable program requirements.
Independent contractors are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, equipment, expenses, and other obligations associated with operating as an independent contractor, except where otherwise specifically agreed to in writing. This opportunity does not create an employer-employee relationship and does not include employee benefits.
Specific compensation, assignments, deliverables, payment terms, confidentiality requirements, and other conditions will be established in the applicable independent contractor agreement.
Why become a Community Ambassador?
Technology alone doesn't build communities. People do.
The Word. is designed to help people discover opportunities to participate, contribute, volunteer, support local organizations, meet their neighbors, support local businesses, and strengthen the places where they live.
Community Ambassadors make that mission personal. You'll work directly with nonprofits, businesses, schools, community leaders, and residents while helping organizations discover new ways to connect with the people around them.
As The Word. expands into additional communities, our Community Ambassadors will play an important role in ensuring that growth remains personal, local, and community-driven.
